Description
Prunotto Barolo Classico is a Nebbiolo from the Barolo DOCG in Piedmont, assembled across more than one commune in the traditional Alba manner.
Prunotto has been an Alba name since 1904, when it was founded as a growers' co-operative; Alfredo Prunotto gave the house his name in 1923, and from the mid 1950s Beppe Colla made it one of the pioneers of single vineyard bottling in the Langhe. The Antinori family has owned the house since the 1990s. This Barolo is built from fruit grown in different corners of the appellation, a style that predates the cru movement and is still the way most houses first learned to make Barolo, since a blend can balance what one village gives against what another withholds. Nebbiolo is fermented on skins, aged in oak and held in bottle for the period the DOCG requires.
Serve at about 18°C with slow cooked meats, mushroom risotto or hard alpine cheeses; it will repay a few hours in a decanter, or several years in the cellar.
