Description
Prunotto Barolo Vigna Colonnello DOCG comes from a single parcel inside Bussia, the most argued over and most admired cru of Monforte d'Alba.
Vigna Colonnello lies within Bussia Soprana, on calcareous marl at an elevation that lets Nebbiolo hang late into the autumn. Prunotto has long bottled it as a wine in its own right, part of a tradition the house helped establish: founded as an Alba co-operative in 1904 and named for Alfredo Prunotto in 1923, it was among the first in Piedmont to treat individual vineyards as separate wines rather than components of a blend. Beppe Colla shaped that identity from the 1950s, and the Antinori family has owned the house since the 1990s. Fruit is fermented on skins with a long maceration, matured in oak, then given extended bottle age before release.
Best with braised or roasted red meat, game and truffle dishes; serve at around 18°C, decant if opening young, and expect it to gain from ten years or more in the cellar.
