Prunotto Moscato d'Asti 2025

Prunotto Moscato d'Asti is a lightly sparkling, low alcohol white from the hills between Asti and Alba in southern Piedmont.

Moscato d'Asti DOCG is made from Moscato Bianco grown on chalky hillsides across a swathe of the Asti, Cuneo and Alessandria provinces, and it is defined as much by what is left in the wine as by what is taken out. Fermentation is halted while natural grape sugar remains and before the yeast has converted it all to alcohol, which is why the wine usually finishes between five and six degrees and carries a gentle spritz rather than the full pressure of a sparkling wine. It is made in sealed, pressurised tanks and bottled early. Prunotto, an Alba house dating to 1904 and now owned by the Antinori family, makes its version in that tradition.

Serve well chilled, at 6 to 8°C, with hazelnut cake, panettone or fresh fruit, and drink it young rather than cellaring it.
