Description

Puech Noble Côteaux du Languedoc Blanc is a Mediterranean white from the limestone garrigue country behind the coast of southern France.

Coteaux du Languedoc is the historic name for the broad appellation running across the hills from Narbonne towards Nîmes, since largely absorbed into the wider Languedoc appellation though the older wording survives on labels. Whites are a minority here and are made from southern varieties, among them Grenache Blanc, Vermentino, called Rolle in France, and Muscat, planted on stony limestone soils among the scrub. Heat is tempered by altitude in the hills and by the sea air, and the wines are typically pressed gently and fermented cool in stainless steel. The word puech is Occitan for a hill, and recurs throughout Languedoc place names. Vermentino has spread across the south as growers look for whites suited to a warm climate.

Serve well chilled with grilled fish, shellfish, tapenade and lighter Mediterranean dishes.
