Description
Puech Noble Rouge is a southern French red built on Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre, the classic trio of the Mediterranean south.
These three varieties form the backbone of red wine from Châteauneuf-du-Pape down through the Languedoc, each supplying what the others lack: Grenache brings weight and ripeness, Syrah gives structure and colour, and Mourvèdre adds firmness and the capacity to age. Vines grow on poor limestone and stony soils among the low scrub known as garrigue, in a dry climate where the mistral and the tramontane keep the canopy healthy, yields stay naturally low and irrigation is rare. Blending across the three is the regional habit, and the proportions shift from site to site and from year to year. The word puech is Occitan for a hill. The Languedoc is the largest vineyard region in France by planted area.
It suits grilled lamb, sausages and slow-cooked stews, and is best served at cool room temperature.
