Pyramid Valley Angel Flower Pinot Noir 2023

Pyramid Valley Angel Flower Pinot Noir is a biodynamic single-block Pinot from Waikari, North Canterbury.

North Canterbury's limestone belt is the reason this vineyard exists at all, and this plot sits where the soils run thinnest: a steep, north-facing slope at the southern end of the estate, planted in 2000 at 11,111 vines per hectare. Less clay means less weight and more scent, which is precisely the point of keeping it separate from the neighbouring block. The combination of strong sunlight, high UV, moderate warmth and reasonable humidity at Waikari lets fruit ripen slowly enough to hold its delicacy. Farming is biodynamic and the wine goes to bottle unfined and unfiltered.

Floral and high-toned, with red berries, a whisper of tea leaf and a slippery, silky palate. Fine tannin, long finish. Serve at 15 degrees. Match it with roast chicken, venison carpaccio or a plate of charcuterie and pickles.
