Pyramid Valley Marlborough Weaver Sauvignon Blanc 2022

Pyramid Valley Marlborough Weaver Sauvignon Blanc is an unfiltered single-vineyard Sauvignon from Marlborough's southern hills.

Concrete replaced oak for the 2022 ferment, and the wine is better for it: eight months on lees in the concrete, then four in neutral barrels. The fruit is hand-selected from the Weaver family's certified organic, biodynamically farmed Churton vineyard, on a northeast-facing slope of loess over clay 200 metres up between the Waihopai and Omaka Valleys, and picking fell on 31 March. This sits alongside the Springs Chardonnay and Korimako Pinot in the estate's small single-vineyard tier, and Huw Kinch keeps it there because the site shows how ambitious the variety can be in this country.

Chalk contours around sweet mint and juicy lime, with texture that rewards a decent glass and a finish that stays dry. Eleven degrees. Try it with oysters, snapper crudo, chicken with green herbs, or a young goat's cheese.
