Description
Quealy KK01 Pinot Noir is a certified organic Pinot Noir from dry-grown MV6 vines in duplex clay.
Duplex clay under two dry-grown MV6 blocks planted in 1994 is the foundation, with compost and cover crops doing the work that fertiliser and herbicide would elsewhere; the Balnarring vineyard has been certified organic for years. Hand-harvested fruit fermented on indigenous yeasts and spent eighteen days on skins before ten months in French hogsheads and puncheons, one-sixth of them new. A kind growing season gave intense varietal flavour, fully resolved tannins and the acidity to keep it lively, which makes 2025 a potentially classic year on the Peninsula. This is the least worked of the estate's Pinots and, in a season like this, not the least serious.
Red cherry, rhubarb and a savoury spice note, with fine ripe tannin and refreshing acidity carrying a long finish. Serve at 14 to 15 degrees. Roast chicken, charcuterie, duck sausages, or beetroot and lentils with feta.
