Description
Quealy Lina Lool is a co-fermented skin-contact white led by Malvasia Istriana.
Malvasia Istriana takes the lead in 2021 at 46 per cent, with Moscato Giallo, Friulano, Riesling and a little Ribolla Gialla behind it, the most Italian-looking blend the label has produced. Picking ran for a fortnight from 30 March, and everything was co-fermented, held on skins in amphora right through to winter's final day, then basket-pressed with only a light squeeze and matured twelve months in old large-format oak. Tom McCarthy rates the vintage as sublime: La Niña meant no water stress, flowering was close to perfect, and the run to harvest brought no serious heat, so the fruit came in fully flavoured and balanced.
The most complete version of this wine to date, with dried pear, orange oil, fennel seed and honeysuckle over fine chalky tannin and a long dry finish. Serve at 13 to 14 degrees. Roast pork, chicken with olives, or a cheese board with fruit paste.
