Description
Quealy Mornington Peninsula Pinot Grigio is a dry, energetic Grigio drawn from six vineyards across the Peninsula.
All six are farmed by the Quealy team, and the Peninsula's cool conditions and varied soils let the fruit ripen gradually, with harvest running from late February into late March depending on the site. The season was long and cool, and low to moderate yields have given fruit of real concentration. Whole bunches are pressed slowly, taking only the palest juice and leaving the firmer skin tannins behind; the juice settles overnight without sulphur, is racked, and then ferments on its own vineyard yeasts in stainless steel. Handling is kept to a minimum and the wine went into bottle early, in late August, holding on to a little of the carbon dioxide from its own ferment.
Nashi pear and lime with a stony, mineral centre and a pulpy, gently grippy texture. Dry and long. Serve at 9 to 10 degrees. Match it with oysters, grilled calamari, a pork and fennel sausage, or a plate of antipasto.
