Quealy Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir 2020

Quealy Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir is the estate's blended Pinot, drawn from its premium vineyard sites.

This is the one Pinot in the range assembled from several vineyards instead of one, running from the low, warm Campbell and Christine block on the coastal plain to the cool, late-ripening site high on Main Ridge. Clones differ, vine ages differ, and elevations differ by well over a hundred metres; what ties them together is that the team farms every row. Blending across that spread gives a wine with the perfume of the high sites and the flesh of the low ones, which is a fair definition of what regional Mornington Pinot should taste like. Kathleen Quealy and Kevin McCarthy have worked these vineyards since the early 1990s, and their son Tom now makes the wine.

Red cherry and plum with a savoury, spicy edge and soft, approachable tannin. Medium-bodied and easy to like. Serve at 15 to 16 degrees. Roast chicken, duck sausages, or mushrooms on toast with thyme. A light chill does it no harm on a warm day.
