Description
Quealy Musk Creek Late Harvest Pinot Gris is a sweet, botrytis-affected wine in a 375ml bottle.
A run of difficult vintages had made this style impossible, and then 2025 delivered good fruit set, enough water and almost no disease pressure, giving the first late-harvest Gris here in many years. The grapes grow on 0.4 hectares high above Main Ridge at 150 metres, on nutrient-rich basalt and alluvial soils. Noble rot settled over 40 to 50 per cent of the bunches through the season, and picking was done in several passes in early May. Fermentation happened in barrel on full solids before racking and sterile filtration, finishing at 196 grams of residual sugar per litre with low alcohol.
Candied ginger leads, then ripe lemon and the depth of crème brûlée, with yellow florals lifting what is otherwise an unctuous wine. Serve it cold, around 8 degrees, in small glasses. There is sweetness and acidity enough for blue cheese, a washed rind, or a simple lemon tart.
