Description
Quealy Musk Creek Pinot Gris is a single-vineyard Gris from a strong Mornington vintage.
Elevation does the work here. At 200 metres on Main Ridge, on basalt-derived volcanic soil with a north-north-east aspect, these dry-grown own-rooted 1997 vines ripen well after the warmer Balnarring blocks that give the Grigio, and the wind off Bass Strait holds the acidity in the tiny pink bunches. Whole bunches are pressed over six slow hours to take only the most delicate phenolics. Seventy per cent of the juice then ferments in stainless steel, the balance in French puncheons with a new Stockinger cask or two among them, adding weight and complexity. Lees stirring was kept deliberately light.
Red apple, pink grapefruit and honeysuckle with a spicy mineral core and a dry, grippy finish that lasts. Serve at 10 to 11 degrees. Try it with roast pork, prawns with chilli and garlic, or a wedge of gruyère.
*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
