Quealy Seventeen Rows Pinot Noir Museum Release 2017

Quealy Seventeen Rows Pinot Noir Museum Release is a cellared release of the estate's flagship Mornington Peninsula Pinot Noir.

Held back at the winery and released once it had some age on it, this comes from the same seventeen rows of MV6 planted in 1982 at Balnarring that supply the flagship Pinot every year. The family bought the property in 2003 and the block sits on a gentle north-facing slope over shallow loam and clay. Museum stock like this has spent its life in one cellar under stable conditions, which matters more with Pinot Noir than almost any other variety. Kathleen Quealy and Kevin McCarthy built the estate's reputation on the Peninsula, and Tom McCarthy now makes the wines.

Age brings the savoury elements forward here, with dried berry, forest floor and spice ahead of the fruit, and tannins that have long since softened. Serve at 16 degrees and open it just before pouring. Roast game birds, mushroom dishes and aged hard cheese suit it best.
