Quinta do Noval LBV Unfiltered 2019

Quinta do Noval LBV Unfiltered is a Late Bottled Vintage port from the house that created the category, bottled without any filtration.

The Douro is the oldest demarcated wine region in the world, and Quinta do Noval, above Pinhão, is one of its most celebrated single estates. Noval bottled the first LBV in 1958 and has treated the wine seriously ever since, choosing from the outset to handle it exactly as it handles its Vintage Port before ageing: only good estate-grown fruit, trodden by foot. Where the prevailing norm is heavy filtration, which strips a great deal out, Noval bottles its LBV unfiltered, and the result is a considerably richer style that shares some of the depth and intensity of the house Vintage. The grapes are stomped in the quinta's traditional stone lagares and macerated through a three-day fermentation to draw out as much polyphenolic material as possible before fortification. The blend rests on the classic Douro field-blend varieties.

Being unfiltered it will throw a deposit, so decant it. Serve at 16-18°C with Stilton, walnuts or a dark chocolate tart, and finish the bottle within a week or two.
