Quinta do Vesúvio Vintage Port 1.5L MAGNUM 2023

Quinta do Vesúvio Vintage Port is a single-quinta vintage port from a vast, isolated estate in the Douro Superior.

The Douro was demarcated in 1756, among the first wine regions in the world to be given legal boundaries, and Vesúvio lies at its far eastern end, near the Spanish border, where summers are fiercely hot and rainfall scarce. The estate was built up in the nineteenth century by Dona Antónia Ferreira and acquired by the Symington family in 1989. Its port is declared as the produce of the single property rather than blended across quintas, and the grapes, chiefly Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca with old-vine field varieties, are still trodden by foot in granite lagares before fortification with grape spirit. Vintage port is declared only in the best years, and accounts for a small share of production.

It will keep for decades, needs decanting off its sediment, and suits strong cheese, walnuts or dark chocolate.
