Quinta Do Vesuvio Vintage Port 1995

Quinta Do Vesuvio Vintage Port is a single-estate port from one of the largest and most remote properties in the Douro Superior.

Quinta do Vesúvio lies far up the Douro towards the Spanish border, in the hot, arid country upriver from the traditional port heartland. It was developed in the nineteenth century by Dona Antónia Ferreira, the most celebrated figure in the history of the region, and was bought by the Symington family in 1989. Unusually for a port of this standing it is declared as a single quinta rather than blended across several, and it is still made in the old way, with the grapes trodden by foot in granite lagares before fortification. The steep schist terraces are planted largely to Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca. Vintage port is declared only in the best years.

It rewards decades in the cellar and should be decanted off its sediment; serve at cool room temperature with strong cheese, walnuts or dark chocolate.
