Radford Dale Frankenstein Pinotage 2023

Radford Dale Frankenstein Pinotage is a pure, lighter take on South Africa's own grape from Stellenbosch.

Pinotage was created in South Africa in 1925 by crossing Pinot Noir with Cinsault, and it has plenty of critics. The team at this Stellenbosch winery set out to show that, treated gently, the grape can make wines of intrigue and complexity without harsh or rough edges. The playful name nods to that reputation: less a monster than a misunderstood soul that repays kindness with generosity. The winemaking aims for clarity and purity of fruit and a lithe, supple texture, at a modest 12.5% alcohol.

Try it slightly cool, at around 14 to 16 degrees, much as you would a Pinot Noir. It is good with duck, grilled mushrooms, charcuterie or a Cape Malay bobotie.
