Radio-Coteau Anderson Valley Savoy Chardonnay 2020

Radio-Coteau Anderson Valley Savoy Chardonnay is a wild-fermented single-vineyard Chardonnay from Anderson Valley.

An even split between the two clones sets the 2020 apart: Wente at half, with its small clusters and mineral drive, and Prosser at half, bringing the tropical end of the spectrum. All the oak was old this time, lightly toasted and tightly grained, and the wine spent seventeen months in it on lees with no stirring, having gone through full malolactic conversion after a wild ferment in barrel. Late August picking, whole-bunch pressing and bottling without fining or filtration complete the picture. Eric Sussman's per-acre contract at this southwest-facing Mendocino site lets him insist on low yields, green harvesting and organic farming.

Rich and creamy in the Californian manner but held in check by mouth-watering acidity, with yellow peach, citrus oil, almond and a savoury, leesy depth. Serve at 12 degrees in a big glass. Good with roast pork loin, lobster, or a mushroom and parmesan risotto.
