Description
Ragnaud Sabourin VSOP Selection Du Domaine No. 10 is a Grande Champagne Cognac made entirely from the estate's own vines at Ambleville.
VSOP is a legal category requiring the youngest eau-de-vie in the blend to have spent at least four years in oak, and most houses meet that and no more; the numbered bottlings at Ragnaud-Sabourin sit above the minimum. Grande Champagne, the cru surrounding the estate, is the most chalk dominated of Cognac's six growing zones, and its spirits are the slowest to mature and the longest lived. Ugni Blanc is picked early at modest sugar levels, fermented without chaptalisation as the appellation requires, and distilled twice in copper pot stills before ageing in Limousin oak. The house has long declined to use caramel or sugar to standardise its releases from one bottling to the next.
Serve neat at room temperature after a meal, or use it where a good Cognac is called for in mixed drinks.
