Ravensworth Barbera & Nebbiolo 2025

Ravensworth Barbera & Nebbiolo is a Piemontese-inspired red blend from vines grown on clay and shale at Hilltops.

Three vineyards fed the 2025: Bit of Heaven, Shale and Duplex, all in Hilltops, all on duplex soils where clay sits over shale. The blend again lands at eighty-five per cent Barbera with Nebbiolo making up the rest, the Barbera bringing juicy acidity and depth of colour while the Nebbiolo supplies perfume and tannic grip. Both parcels were fermented as whole berries over three to four weeks in small open-top fermenters, then racked to old barriques for eleven months, which adds breadth without any obvious oak flavour. It is a deliberately unfussy wine in the Langhe rosso mould, made for the dinner table.

Red cherry, dried herb and a faintly bitter almond finish, with mouth-watering acidity and fine-grained tannin. Serve at 16 degrees. Braised beef, a mushroom risotto, or pizza with fennel sausage would all be a good fit.
