Ravensworth Estate Riesling 2022

Ravensworth Estate Riesling is a dry, long-raised Riesling from granite soils on the Ravensworth property at Murrumbateman.

Riesling matters to Bryan Martin, who made it for many years at Clonakilla and has drunk his way through the great examples of the world. The grapes came off three blocks planted on the estate in 1998, on granite-rich soils at 650 metres, harvested on 25 March. After three to eight hours of skin contact the fruit was destemmed and went to press, then into 650-litre ceramic eggs, where both fermentation and malolactic conversion ran their course over eleven months. The wine was then stirred and moved to a six-year-old Stockinger foudre for another twelve months before bottling, unfined and unfiltered, in April 2024.

Dry and textural, with lime, white peach, ginger and a chalky, savoury finish that owes more to time in vessel than to fruit sweetness. Serve at 11 degrees. Pair it with pork belly, a Vietnamese chicken salad, or fresh prawns with lemon.
