Ravensworth Regional Sangiovese 2023

Ravensworth Regional Sangiovese is a medium-bodied Sangiovese blended from Murrumbateman and Hilltops fruit.

Two sources came together in 2023, the estate vineyard at Murrumbateman and a vineyard at Young and Harden in Hilltops. Despite sitting in different regions they have a good deal in common: high proportions of shale and granite, elevations between 550 and 650 metres, and an average vine age of around eighteen years. Fruit was processed as whole berries into small tanks for natural fermentation, and after four weeks on skins it went into used barriques and puncheons for a further fifteen. Bryan Martin's instincts with this variety are well established, and the wine arrives every year with red fruit and varietal charm intact.

Red cherry and cranberry with a savoury, herbal edge, juicy through the middle and finishing dusty and dry. Serve at 16 degrees. Pasta with a tomato and sausage sauce, roast chicken, or grilled lamb skewers are all good company.
