Description
Ravensworth Regional Sangiovese is a Sangiovese drawn from three vineyards across Hilltops and the Canberra district.
Sourcing for this label shifts each year according to which sites are showing best, and in 2024 it came from Grove Estate at Young, Bit of Heaven at Wombat and Brett's Vineyard at Yass River. Bryan Martin works closely with each grower, and he is particularly taken with Brett's, describing it as rocky, hard country carrying some genuinely old Sangiovese. After harvest the fruit went into open-top fermenters and macerated on skins for three to six weeks before pressing into old barriques, where fifteen months of maturation left the wine supple. Martin was among the first in Australia to take the variety seriously.
Sour cherry, dried herb and a lick of orange peel, with juicy acidity and a mouth-watering bite at the close. Serve at 16 degrees. Very good with a pork and fennel ragu, saltimbocca, or a plate of prosciutto and olives.
