Ravensworth Regional Shiraz Grenache Mourvèdre 2023

Ravensworth Regional Shiraz Grenache Mourvèdre is a full-bodied Rhône-style blend from the Hilltops region.

Following the first release of this blend, the 2023 keeps the same shape: Shiraz at sixty per cent with Grenache and Mourvèdre splitting the balance evenly. Parcels were kept apart, each fermented as whole berries in a small open-top vessel and plunged daily, then pressed to 500-litre puncheons for twelve months before a second year in large-format foudre. Bryan Martin's own bistro standby is the Syrah-led Guigal Côtes du Rhône, and this is his home-grown answer to it, made at a price that makes the comparison worth having. Hilltops fruit has become central to the Ravensworth range over the past several years.

Dark berry, pepper and dried thyme, with a savoury middle and tannin that is supple but present. Serve at 16 degrees. Roast lamb, a sausage and white bean casserole, or a plate of grilled vegetables with haloumi would all suit.
