Ravensworth Tempranillo Graciano Garnacha 2023

Ravensworth Tempranillo Graciano Garnacha is a medium-bodied Spanish-style red blend from Hilltops fruit.

Rioja is the template, and the proportions follow suit: seventy-five per cent Tempranillo with Graciano and Garnacha splitting the rest. All the fruit is grown in Hilltops, a region whose consistency has drawn Bryan Martin back year after year. Soils vary from site to site but share a granite base cut through with windblown clay sediments, and the vineyards all sit between 500 and 600 metres. Fermentation was as whole berries in small one-tonne fermenters, and after four weeks on skins the wine was pressed to puncheons and barriques for fifteen months, long enough to settle the tannins without stripping the fruit.

Red plum, dried fig and leather with a savoury, faintly smoky finish, the tannin supple and the acid lively. Serve at 16 degrees. Chorizo and chickpeas, roast lamb, or a plate of manchego and quince paste would all be a natural fit.
