Description
Ravensworth Tumbarumba Chardonnay is a high-altitude Chardonnay raised in demi-muid and foudre.
Two alpine sites in Tumbarumba, both farmed by Johansen Wines, supply the fruit. Glenburnie sits at 710 metres on basalt and iron minerals, while Mountain View climbs to 760 metres on granite and quartz, and the difference between them is a large part of why the blend works. Fruit was held on skins for between eight and twenty-four hours, then pressed to demi-muids and foudre to ferment. Leaving the demi-muids untopped is a deliberate choice that gives the wine its nutty, saline signature. Twelve months of maturation followed before blending and bottling. Bryan Martin has spent years arriving at this style.
Citrus, white nectarine and a distinctly nutty, salty core, with fine acidity and a long dry finish. Serve at 12 degrees, in a generous glass. Good with roast chicken, pan-fried snapper, or a bowl of pasta with cream and mushrooms.
