Description
Réserve Mont-Redon Côtes du Rhône blanc is the white of Château Mont-Redon's Côtes du Rhône range, unusually led by Viognier.
Château Mont-Redon is one of the largest single properties in Châteauneuf-du-Pape, around a hundred hectares on the high plateau north west of the village where the ground is carpeted in galets roulés, the rounded quartzite stones left by the ice ages. The Abeille-Fabre family has run it since 1923. The house also farms outside the papal appellation, in Lirac and across the broader Côtes du Rhône, and the Réserve label is where that fruit is bottled. This white is Viognier heavy for the appellation at 61 per cent, with 15 per cent Grenache Blanc, 13 per cent Roussanne and a balance of other permitted varieties. It is made without oak and sealed under screwcap, which suits a wine built for its aromatics and early drinking.
Fresh and gently textured rather than weighty, it suits grilled fish, roast chicken and soft cheeses; serve at around 10 degrees.
