Reyneke Cornerstone 2020

Reyneke Cornerstone is a Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon blend from one of South Africa's best-known biodynamic estates.

The Reyneke farm lies in the Polkadraai Hills on the western edge of Stellenbosch, where cooling breezes off False Bay help the fruit keep its freshness through a warm Cape summer. Johan Reyneke took the family vineyards down an organic and then biodynamic path, and the estate became the first in South Africa to be certified biodynamic, with compost, cover crops and soil health at the centre of the way it is farmed. Cornerstone brings the two Cabernets together in a structured, layered red with cassis, black cherry and tobacco, a little black tea and spice, fine tannins and bright acidity. It is built to age.

Serve at around 16 to 18 degrees, and while it is young give it an hour in a decanter. Slow-roasted lamb, beef fillet with mushrooms or a well-aged hard cheese all suit it, and it will reward several years in a cool cellar.
