Robert Weil Kiedrich Gräfenberg Grosses Gewächs is the estate's only GG, bottled here in magnum from its oldest vines.

Gräfenberg, the hill of the counts, has designated Robert Weil's finest wines since the site was classified Weinlage 1 Klasse in 1867. It is home to the estate's oldest vines, up to eighty years of age and mostly on their own rootstock. Although Wilhelm Weil could release Grosses Gewächs from three of his single vineyards, he restricts the designation to this one site. The aim is to recreate the style of the full-bodied dry Rieslings the Rheingau made a century ago, when the region's best whites were among the most expensive wines in the world. Alongside the estate's Turmberg and Klosterberg bottlings, the Gräfenberg is not necessarily more intense so much as finer and more complete. This release was raised for ten months on lees in large, neutral oak doppelstückfass, the big Stockinger casks that add texture without flavour, and the magnum format will extend an already long life.

It can be drunk now with air but rewards a decade or more; serve with roast pork, rich seafood or mature hard cheese at 10-12°C.
