Robert Weil Kiedrich Gräfenberg Grosses Gewächs Riesling Trocken is a dry single-vineyard Riesling from the Rheingau site Weil has reserved for its Grosses Gewächs since the classification of 1867.

The Rheingau runs along a south-facing stretch of the Rhine where Riesling ripens more fully than on the Mosel, and Kiedrich sits back from the river on phyllite slate and quartzite. The Gräfenberg, the 'hill of the counts', has been used to designate Robert Weil's finest wines since the site was classified Weinlage 1 Klasse in 1867. It holds the estate's oldest vines, up to eighty years of age and mostly on their own rootstock, and although Weil could release Grosses Gewächs from three of its single vineyards, Wilhelm Weil restricts the designation to this one. Picking is by successive selective passes, and the wine is fermented dry and raised for around ten months on its lees in large neutral Stockinger Doppelstück casks, which lend texture without oak flavour. The result is finer and more subtly powerful than the Turmberg or Klosterberg bottlings.

It rewards several years in bottle and will keep for decades; serve at 10-12°C with roast chicken, veal, crab or firm washed-rind cheese.
