Robert Weil Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Beerenauslese 375ml 2023

Robert Weil Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Beerenauslese is a rare sweet wine from selected overripe berries in the estate's finest site, bottled in 375ml.

Beerenauslese sits a step below Trockenbeerenauslese in the Prädikat ladder, made from individually picked overripe berries rather than fully shrivelled ones, which gives a wine that is intensely sweet but a little more transparent and less viscous than the TBA. The fruit comes from Kiedrich Gräfenberg, classified as Weinlage 1 Klasse in 1867 and home to Weil's oldest vines, much of it on its own rootstock. The rocky, mountainous setting of the Kiedricher Berg is central to the estate's success with these styles, holding natural sweetness against mouth-watering freshness and pungent minerality. Harvest rarely starts before October and continues for at least eight to ten weeks, with up to 40 pickers making as many as 17 passes through the vineyard. Fermentation takes place in small, custom-built vats.

Lovely on release and capable of decades in bottle; serve at 8–10°C in small glasses with apricot tart, foie gras or a wedge of Roquefort.
