Robert Weil Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Spätlese is a classically sweet Rheingau Riesling made without reliance on noble rot.

Weil is among the most respected producers of Germany's sweeter Prädikat styles, and the Gräfenberg is the estate's finest site, classified as Weinlage 1 Klasse in 1867 and home to its oldest vines. What makes these wines work is the rocky, high-lying setting of the Kiedricher Berg, which holds natural sweetness, mouth-watering freshness and pungent minerality in balance rather than letting any one of them run away. Unlike the great sweet wines of France, the style does not depend on botrytis; the steep, well-aerated slopes at Kiedrich rarely see noble rot form, so the concentration comes from late picking and ripeness rather than from rot. This release finished at 67 grams per litre of residual sugar against 10 grams per litre of acidity, a ratio that keeps the wine light on its feet despite the sweetness.

Lovely young and capable of decades in bottle; serve at 8–10°C with spiced Asian dishes, pork belly or a fruit-based dessert.
