Robert Weil Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Spätlese 2024

Robert Weil Kiedrich Gräfenberg Riesling Spätlese is a fruity-sweet Riesling from a Rheingau grand cru site.

Spätlese here means late-picked fruit with the sweetness left in, a style the Rheingau has practised for two centuries and one this estate has done as much as anyone to sustain. The fruit comes from Gräfenberg, classified as first class in 1867 and home to the oldest vines at Kiedrich, many of them on their own rootstock and approaching eighty years of age. Loess and loam over the slope give the wines their textural dimension. Stuart Piggott has written that the Rheingau's tradition of high-end sweet Riesling might not have survived the modern era without Wilhelm Weil's work in the style, and the record bears him out.

Off-dry to properly sweet depending on your palate, with white peach, mandarin, honeysuckle and a racy, mineral line of acid holding it all in place. Serve at 9 degrees. Very good with a spiced pork belly, Thai green curry, or a wedge of Roquefort; it will also improve for decades.
