Robert Weil Kiedrich Klosterberg Riesling Trocken 2023

Robert Weil Kiedrich Klosterberg Riesling Trocken comes from the highest of the estate's three hillside sites, on deep, iron-rich weathered slate.

The Klosterberg is a steep four-hectare vineyard whose vines are between 40 and 60 years old. At up to 300 metres it is the highest of Weil's Kiedrich sites, but its southern aspect and deeper, iron-rich weathered slate soils make it the most opulent and seductive of them when young. The team at the estate often reach for the word baroque to describe the lift and generosity of the wines from here. There is a good deal of slate, but also gneiss, which brings out more fruit and floral character. Like all of Weil's single-site dry wines from this release, it was raised entirely in Doppelstückfass, large neutral casks, and aged on full lees for 10 months before bottling. It shares something with the village-level Kiedricher wine but gains noticeably in intensity, complexity and drive at the finish.

Drinking well now and good for a decade or more; serve at 10–12°C with grilled fish, roast pork or a mild curry.
