Robert Weil Kiedrich Turmberg Riesling Auslese is a sweet, late-harvested Riesling from a Rheingau monopole, in 375ml.

Auslese is made from selectively picked bunches left on the vine well past the normal harvest date, often touched by noble rot, and it is a style in which this estate is regarded as among the very best in Germany. Stuart Piggott has argued that the Rheingau's tradition of great sweet Riesling owes its modern survival to Wilhelm Weil. The Turmberg is a 3.8-hectare monopole below the ruined tower of Burg Scharfenstein, restored to the vineyard register as its own classified site in 2005. Its pure, rocky slate gives the most linear and tightly coiled wines in the range, which is a useful counterweight to the sweetness.

Honeyed but taut, with apricot, ginger, lime and a crystalline acid spine that makes it far more drinkable than the sugar suggests. Serve at 9 degrees in a small glass. Match it with a fruit tart, mild blue cheese, or a duck with orange.
