Robert Weil Kiedrich Turmberg Trockenbeerenauslese 375ml 2022

Robert Weil's Turmberg Trockenbeerenauslese is a half-bottle of intensely sweet Riesling from the estate's monopole site below the old castle tower.

The Rheingau's Kiedricher Berg rises steeply behind the village of Kiedrich, and Weingut Robert Weil has held the best of it since the 1860s. The estate's reputation rests as much on its botrytis wines as on its dry Rieslings. Harvest seldom starts before October and can run eight to ten weeks, with a team of up to forty pickers going through the rows in as many as seventeen passes, taking only berries that have shrivelled cleanly. The site is rocky and airy enough that the sugar never arrives without the acidity to carry it. Turmberg is a 3.8-hectare monopole between Gräfenberg and the village, reinstated as a classified site in 2005 after the 1971 wine law had absorbed it into its neighbour. At Trockenbeerenauslese level only individual shrivelled, botrytised berries go into the vat, and the wine carries around 255 grams per litre of residual sugar balanced by 12.7 grams of acidity at just 8 per cent alcohol.

Ready now and built to hold for generations in the cellar. Serve at 8-10°C in small glasses with Roquefort, a peach tart or simply by itself.
