Description
Kiedricher Riesling Trocken is Robert Weil's village-level dry wine, drawn from the first pickings of the estate's classified hillside sites.
The village of Kiedrich sits in the eastern Rheingau below a run of steep slate slopes that Weingut Robert Weil has farmed since the 1860s. This bottling is blended from the first-picked parcels of the three classified sites, Klosterberg, Turmberg and Gräfenberg, with a measure of fruit from Wasseros alongside. Picking those parcels early keeps the acidity high and leaves the later, riper fruit for the single-site wines, but the vineyard sources still show through in texture and in the stony intensity that separates this from the estate's entry-level Riesling. One third of the wine is raised for six months in large Stockinger doppelstückfass, the traditional Rheingau wooden cask, which adds breadth without any perceptible oak; the remainder stays in stainless steel to keep the wine direct.
Ready on release and holding well for five to eight years. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled white fish, schnitzel or a plate of charcuterie.
