Robert Weil Monte Vacano Riesling Trocken 2022

Robert Weil Monte Vacano Riesling Trocken is a dry Riesling from a half-hectare parcel within the Gräfenberg grand cru.

Half a hectare, in the steepest and most phyllite-rich section of Kiedrich's Gräfenberg, sitting between the Gräfenberg proper and the Turmberg, with vines of forty to sixty years. The parcel has a history: it was bottled separately for celebrations in the nineteenth century before falling dormant in 1921, and the name has only recently been revived. What it offers is different from the Grosses Gewächs made further down the same slope. Where that wine trades in power and richness, this one goes for purity, elegance and detail, and the phyllite is the reason. Very little is made.

Delicate but intense, with lime blossom, white peach, crushed rock and a long, filigree finish. Serve at 11 degrees in a large glass and give it air. Pair it with steamed fish, scallops, or a simple roast chicken; it will also reward a decade in the cellar.
