Description
Roc Breïa Bourgogne Rouge is Théo Dancer's Mâconnais Pinot Noir, made with roughly half whole bunches and raised in used 500-litre barrels.
Roc Breïa is the Mâconnais arm of the Dancer family's work, sitting well south of the Côte d'Or where Pinot Noir is far less common than Chardonnay or Gamay. The Pinot Noir vines here are slightly younger than the estate's Chardonnay, planted between 1970 and 1985. Vinification uses around fifty per cent whole bunches, and the wine matures in used 500-litre barrels, with a rigorous barrel selection at blending: anything Dancer is unhappy with is left out. The approach follows the same minimalist line as the Côte d'Or reds bottled under the Vincent Dancer label, with no added yeast, very low sulphur and no filtration. The wine carries floral lift, red fruit and a light trace of oak over fine tannins, and it opens considerably with air.
Best decanted or given a large glass; drink over five years with game birds, roast chicken or charcuterie. Serve at 16-18°C.
