Description

Roc Breïa Chardonnay is a Mâconnais white from vines planted in the mid-1940s and mid-1970s, bottled as Vin de France rather than under its appellation, and offered here in magnum.

The village of Bray lies in the north of the Mâconnais, in the zone that also takes in Cruzille and Verzé, and is among the cooler, later-ripening parts of the region. The Roc Breïa vines face west and the site is windy, which keeps disease pressure low. Vincent Dancer, with the vigneron Bastien Cubillé, has been bringing the vineyard up to the standard of his Côte d’Or holdings, working the soils back into balance, planting cover crops and cultivating between the vines. Winemaking is deliberately plain: the Chardonnay is pressed as whole bunches straight to used 500-litre barrels for fermentation and bottled unfiltered with a very small sulphur addition of around 20 mg/L. Dancer labels it Vin de France instead of Mâcon-Bray so that he is not bound by appellation picking dates.

Fresh and linear, and best over the next five to eight years; give it air when young. Serve at 10-12°C with grilled fish, roast chicken or a soft goat’s cheese.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
