Description
Rocche Costamagna Barolo DOCG Roche dell'Annunziata Riserva Bricco Francesco is the estate's Riserva, from the Rocche dell'Annunziata cru in La Morra.
Rocche dell'Annunziata is one of the most highly regarded vineyards in the whole Barolo zone, a steep amphitheatre on the slope below the hamlet of Annunziata in La Morra, with calcareous marl soils and a generous eastern and southern exposure. Rocche Costamagna sits on the cru itself and has been associated with it for generations. Riserva is a legal category in Barolo requiring at least five years of ageing before release, two more than the standard wine, and it is generally reserved for the seasons a producer judges strong enough to carry the extra time. The Nebbiolo is macerated on skins and aged in oak, then held in bottle so that nothing is sold before it has begun to settle.
Serve at around 18°C with slow cooked beef, game or truffle dishes, and decant if opening young; a wine of this kind rewards fifteen years or more in a cool cellar.
