Royal Tokaji Nyulaszo 1st Growth Tokaji Aszú 6 Puttonyos is a single vineyard sweet wine from Mád, at the heart of Hungary's Tokaj region.
Nyulászó is one of the first growth vineyards of Mád, ranked in the classification of 1700 that graded Tokaj's sites more than a century and a half before Bordeaux followed suit. The Royal Tokaji Wine Company was formed in 1990, after the fall of communism, by investors including the wine writer Hugh Johnson, and set about recovering the region's historic parcels from state ownership. Aszú production begins with the hand picking of individual botrytised berries, which are macerated in base wine before pressing and long ageing in Hungarian oak. The puttonyos figure refers to the tubs of berries used, six being the traditional maximum.
Serve chilled in small measures with blue cheese, pâté or a simple fruit dessert.
