Royal Tokaji Wine Company Blue Label Aszú 5 Puttonyos is the house benchmark, blended from classified vineyards across Hungary's Tokaj region.

Tokaj, in Hungary's north east, is where deliberately botrytised sweet wine began; its vineyards were classified in 1700 and its wines were the drink of the Habsburg and Russian courts. The Royal Tokaji Wine Company was founded in 1990 by a group that included the writer Hugh Johnson, buying back many of the great first and second growth plots that had been swallowed by collectivisation. For the Blue Label, berries affected by noble rot are picked individually, macerated in base wine, pressed, and then matured in Hungarian oak casks for several years before release. Five puttonyos indicates a minimum of 120 grams of residual sugar per litre.

A classic partner for blue cheese, foie gras and custard based desserts; and expect it to age for decades.
