Royal Tokaji Wine Company Late Harvest 500mL 2023

Royal Tokaji Wine Company Late Harvest is a sweet white from Tokaj, made in a lighter and more immediate style than the region's famous aszú wines.

Late harvest wines sit a step below aszú in Tokaj's hierarchy and are made rather differently. Whole bunches carrying a good proportion of botrytis affected berries are picked well after the normal date and pressed together, rather than the berries being selected one by one and macerated in base wine. Fermentation is stopped while sugar remains, and ageing is brief, so the wine keeps its freshness and can be drunk on release. Furmint leads the blend, with Yellow Muscat and Hárslevelű in support. The Royal Tokaji Wine Company was founded in 1990 by a group including the writer Hugh Johnson, and farms parcels in and around the village of Mád.
