Sadie Family Stellenbosch Mev. Kirsten is a rare, foudre-fermented Chenin Blanc from a century-old Jonkershoek vineyard.

Vines planted between 1905 and 1920 on decomposed granite at the foot of Bothmaskop make up a single hectare, recognised as the oldest Chenin Blanc planting in the country. Because those vines will not last forever, Eben Sadie has been putting in mass-selection cuttings from the block and keeping the young fruit apart until it earns a place in the blend. The 2024 fermented on solids in old wood and was bottled without filtration after twelve months; Sadie calls the acidity fresher than usual and the season textbook for this site.

Tight, mineral and long, with lemon pith, dried pear and a chalky grip that builds on the finish. It wants ten years, though a decanter helps now. Serve at 12 degrees with crayfish, roast pork loin, or Gruyere.
