Sadie Family Swartland Twiswind 2024

Sadie Family Swartland Twiswind is the maiden release of a white field planting on the Paardeberg's south-western slope.

Established in 2019 on coarse, well-drained weathered granite over a rocky subsoil, the vineyard ripens early and holds its acidity, so alcohols stay moderate at full ripeness. The name translates roughly as arguing with the wind, which is the site's defining condition: constant exposure stunts growth and caps yields at 30 hectolitres per hectare. Eben Sadie planted varieties bred for warm, dry Mediterranean summers, among them Assyrtiko, Grillo, Vermentino, Piquepoul, Verdelho, Palomino, Cinsault Blanc, Grenache Blanc and Clairette, alongside Chenin Blanc, Marsanne and Semillon. Two picks were fermented separately in old cask and concrete, then rested eleven months on lees.

Zesty and textural together, with lime, Granny Smith apple, peach skin and a structural, mouth-filling finish that outlasts the aromatics. Serve at 12 degrees. Grilled fish, a Greek salad with feta, or roast chicken with lemon and herbs.
