Description

Sailor Seeks Horse Syrah Marengo is a cool-climate Syrah from the Huon Valley in Tasmania's deep south.

Paul and Gilli Lipscombe came to winemaking the long way round, learning the trade in Burgundy and Bordeaux before settling on an abandoned vineyard at Cradoc, south of Hobart, and replanting it largely by hand. The Huon is the southernmost winegrowing district in Australia, cool and maritime, and the season runs long and slow, which holds acidity and keeps alcohol moderate. Syrah is a rare sight this far south. Everything is made in small batches with wild ferments and matured in French oak, with as little intervention as the vintage allows.

Expect a peppery, medium-weight red with more lift than bulk. Good with duck, lamb shoulder, mushrooms or a plate of charcuterie, and worth a slight chill at 14 to 16 degrees.

*Every effort is made to ensure the current vintage is accurate; however, variations can occur. If you are after a specific vintage, please contact us prior to ordering.
