Saint Clair Pioneer Block 14 Doctor's Creek Pinot Noir 2021

Saint Clair Pioneer Block 14 Doctor's Creek Pinot Noir is a red-fruited, silky single-vineyard Pinot Noir from Marlborough.

Doctor's Creek is one of the individual sites in the Pioneer Block series, a range the Ibbotson family created to highlight the differences between Marlborough's vineyards. Each block is harvested and made on its own, letting the character of soil and slope come through. This site gives a perfumed, raspberry-led Pinot. The 2021 is dark garnet, with ripe red fruit and toasted oak on the nose, fresh raspberries and wild bramble on the palate, and a smooth texture finishing with charred oak and cream. With a few years in bottle already, it is drinking well now.

It is best at around 16 degrees. Pour it with roast quail, pork belly, beef carpaccio or a mushroom and gruyère tart.
