Sam Miranda Barbera 2019

Sam Miranda Barbera is a juicy, low-tannin King Valley red from Piedmont's everyday grape, now with a few years under its belt.

Barbera comes from Piedmont in north-west Italy, where it is the everyday red of Asti and Alba, and it has found a natural second home in north-east Victoria. Sam, whose Italian-Australian family has been making wine for three generations, set up his own winery at Oxley, with vineyards reaching into the higher, cooler sites of the upper valley. The grape's high acid and gentle tannin survive full ripening here. Several years in bottle have started to soften this vintage and add savoury notes.

Bright acidity and soft tannins make it an easy match for pizza, tomato-based pasta, salumi or roast pork. Pour it at 15–17°C, and drink it now or over the next few years.
